Film Production

Film Production

" type="hidden">
Entertainment

Documentary films, as the name implies, are films produced with the intention of being an audio-visual documentation of a concept or event.

They are looked upon by some as somewhere between art and real.

There is typically a voice-over narrative going on throughout a documentary film with the narrator describing what's being seen in a businesslike way without any dramatic reading.

Documentary films are often made to more deeply explore a current events or history subject that has remained shrouded in mystery, been controversial, or in the opinion of the film maker misunderstood or underexposed,

It could also simply just be a topic that the filmmaker thinks an audience will want to see.

Documentaries have also been made simply to record an event of personal interest to the film maker.

Biographies, sports and music events, a compilation film of collected footage from government sources, all may be subjects for a documentary film.

Remember there is no guarentee your topic will go anywhere so take a look at documenmtaries that have made it.

Making the most money of all time is Ferinheit 911, a very contraversial topic which hit a chord with people all over the world.

Documentary film makers are typically the writers, directors, and producers. Often they act as cameramen as well.

Documentary films are most often made for TV but in more recent times there have been more of them made as direct-to-video, made-for-video, straight-to-video, or straight-to-DVD formats in which they were never first played on TV or in the theaters but were simply distributed for home-viewing.

Some major motion pictures when released in DVD format also come with bonus DVDs that act as documentary films of the making of the movie.

Documentaries also often feature re-enactments of events that could not or were not originally documented on film such as a historical event from the year 1776.

There have also been "mockumentaries" made, in which a piece of comedy fiction is made but is done up in the same dry and straightforward format of an actual documentary. "This Is Spinal Tap" and "The Gods Must Be Crazy" are two of the most successful mockumentaries ever made.

To put together a quality documentary film, the filmmaker first begins by doing research, even if he knows the subject matter well.

Although a non-biased documentary film will relay facts and information from all angles, many times you will get a slanted perspective on the material.

Quality documentaries usually include interviews at some point. This is a technique for lending authoritativeness to the film's producer by getting people to speak from first-hand knowledge about the subject matter or an aspect of it.

A documentary film also has to be well organized in an interesting and logical format.

Unlike with many fictional movie stories, a documentary should never deliberately confuse, or leave something mysterious.

Multiple perspectives or opinions can be highly effective at giving a documentary film depth.

Nintendo Wii Unpacked

Nintendo Wii Unpacked

Entertainment,Computers,Electronics
I have had the good fortune of being able to own a Nintendo Wii, especially considering how difficult, even now, it can be to find one. For those that don't have the Wii yet, and are maybe a little curious as to what is packaged in the box as soon as you buy one, I will provide that tutorial here.

When I first purchased the Wii, the thing that hit me almost instantly was how small the actual box was. It's really difficult to tell how big or small something is when you are looking at pictures of them, so I was a little surprised to see that the box was originally not as big as I thought. Ok, let's get into the meat of things.

What exactly do you get as soon as you open your Wii box. Of course, you get the Nintendo Wii. I have to say, if you thought the actual packaging was small, wait until you check out the actual console. The Wii is unquestionably the smallest of the next-generation consoles. I put the Wii against three GameCube video game cases, and I have to say, it really is roughly that big, albeit maybe a little bigger in terms of height and length. Still really small though.

You will also be getting a Wii remote, which once again, was a lot smaller than I originally thought. When I checked out pictures of the remote, I thought cool, it has an A button similar in size to the GameCube's A button, which I really liked. Nope, I was wrong. It's actually a lot smaller. The whole remote is small. That being said, it's also extremely comfortable and it feels good in your hand.

Another thing you'll be getting is the Nunchuck. This connects to the Wii remote and acts as your joystick with two trigger buttons. It feels solid and fits comfortably in your hand. You'll also be getting the sensor bar, which typically, will be place either on top or below your television. I have it placed on top of my t.v., and it's not intrusive at all. In terms of size, once again, the sensor bar is small. It is wired though, and while it doesn't bug me (I have it running along the back of my t.v.), it may be bothersome to others.

You can purchase other sensor bars without a wire, but of course it requires batteries. That being said, you probably won't need it. Besides your standard instruction manuals that come bundled with you Wii purchase, what else is there? I'm glad you asked, because that thing is Wii Sports. Yes, it comes bundled with a sports related video game. This article is not a review of Wii Sports, but I will say that I recommend picking up another controller or two if you can, because you won't be playing this game alone. You'll want to invite some friends over and throw yourselves a Wii party. That's it. Hope you enjoyed!

Starting a DVD Collection

Starting a DVD Collection

Entertainment
While most people like to watch a movie, not everyone can afford to go out to the theatre or even rent movies these days. Or it can be a hassle to go out yet again after that long day of working outside the home. The thing to do then is to start up your own collection of DVDs so that you'll always have something on hand to watch when you feel like it. While watching it on TV is ok when there is no other choice, having a DVD will save the boredom of watching those same advertisements all the time.

If you are on a budget, then you can save a great deal buying used DVDs. These can be found on eBay or similar auction sites, pawnshops, used CD shops or CD rental outlets. You can also join a DVD club and take advantage of the free ones offered - but don't forget you may have to buy a certain number per year. Even if you can only afford one per month, this will gradually build up - and if you have children, remember that they love repetition, so you don't need to get a great many in a short time.

However you decide to purchase your DVD collection, get a good variety as well as your favourite genre. You may find you want a change every now and then. And don't forget to buy a tower to store them in.

Buy DVD movie and find latest DVD releases online with Doubleday (http://www.doubleday.com.au).

Internet Dating Tip: The 2 Warning Signs That Spell Trouble

Internet Dating Tip: The 2 Warning Signs That Spell Trouble

Dating
Online dating has changed the relationship rules like few things before or since. In fact with internet technology constantly changing and growing, it's only a matter of time before online dating goes to the next level i.e. gets more interpersonal.

But it's not perfect. And just like anything else you have to be cautious in your dealings. Two things in particular you need to watch out for.

1. Insistence

Each person moves at their own pace. In a relationship one party may want to accelerate things along while the other person may be more comfortable with a go slow approach. Either someone gives in or they work it out and find a happy medium.

But with online dating there is something quite alarming about dealing with a person who every time you chat with them it seems like they always put the pedal to the metal. The first time the two of you had your online discussions they wanted to get together. You told them that it was in the best interest of both parties to take it a little more deliberately. They agreed. That is until the next time you chat. Now they are even more adamant. When you ask them what the hurry is, do they give you a satisfactory response?

Even if they do your instincts should be alerting you to potential problems. Be on the alert for any flashes of anger as well as the old emotional blackmail routine. This means if you don't agree to meet them immediately they will cut off all contact. Don't fall for it. As a matter of fact do yourself a favor and beat them to the punch by ending the correspondence immediately.

2. Money

You did not join an online dating service to be anyone's personal atm machine. Sounds obvious but the number of people who have been scammed online continues to grow.

A little sugar coated smooth talk and being surprised at the number of things you both have in common can go along way. Once the rapport has been established then it's only a matter of time before you get the hard luck story. It can take the form of a family emergency or they really want to see you but just don't have the funds. After establishing a bond, the experienced scammer can play on your emotions in such a way that not only do you give them the money but it almost seemed like your idea. They didn't want to tell you their sad fairy-tale but you forced it out of them. Stay on your guard and the minute they try to put the bite on you for some greenbacks, say goodbye. Also if possible report them to the dating service you are registered with.

Finding the right person online requires time, patience and taking the proper safety precautions. That is not to say that the search process itself cannot be enjoyable. Meeting new people and learning something you did not know before is a kick. Just stay alert to anyone who presses the issue too much when it comes to meeting immediately or handing over money.

Buying Gifts for Men

Buying Gifts for Men

" type="hidden">
Dating
Why is it so hard for a woman to buy a gift for her man that he will truly love? Because the things that make a woman drool - clothes, perfume, flowers - simply don't interest most men. We all tend to buy gifts that interest us, but your man will be totally bored if you do this. Instead, think of what he likes most. Most men are sports mad, so if you buy him tickets to his favourite game that is sure to please him. Or if he actually plays a sport, then buying him something related to that field of interest will be a success. If he is a couch potato, then what about tickets to a movie that's not yet on TV?

Another thing that most men like but are not good at is home cooked meals or cakes. Your favourite bachelor uncle or brother might prefer the gift of a home-cooked cake, biscuits or a certificate that promises him his favourite home-cooked meal. Or if he hates washing up, then you could give him an IOU for a week of washing up - or buy him a dishwasher.

Most men love power tools, so they would love a gift of one, but be careful to choose the right one. If he is a true handyman, then a top of the range tool will suit him better than one of those el-cheapo's that don't have enough power to do the job. Car accessories will also please most men, but take care here too. New seat covers need to be the sort he would like - different to what you would choose for yourself.

Need gift ideas for the man in your life? Visit Doubleday (http://www.doubleday.com.au) for a large catalogue of gifts online. You'll be sure to find something special at a bargain price.
